SINS FUNDS TO GOOD CAUSE

The Society of International Scribes (SINS) held its traditional “bash” on the first lay day of the America’s Cup on the roof of the Shosholoza base, courtesy of that challenger with the sponsorship of the web weather system gurus at ClearPoint, whose Matthew Piette was present, and further cooperation of Line 7, whose Ross Munro was in attendance as the Society’s milliner, together with bubbles from Moet et Chandon.

During the proceedings, fines were levied against members who had transgressed – exceeding the Society’s standards of decorum – and a total of €200.00 was raised.  It was decided that this should be presented to a body in the city that assisted young people in the skills of sailing.

A week later, during the lay day imposed by the lack of wind for the seventh race, the SINS fines were donated to “Un Mar Sin Barrieras,” a vocational marine training centre for the under privileged young people of Valencia.  It is here that skills of traditional boatbuilding and sailmaking are taught in conjunction with a sailing school.  Many of the local boats in danger of destruction form the raw material for their restoration projects.

SINS is pleased to be associated with Un Mar Sin Barrieras.

Over for today

1610 CET July 1st 2007:  Race Officer Peter Reggio called off racing for the day as the nort-easterly breeze swung around unmercifully.  Differences of more than 30 degrees over the course made course setting for a fair race impossible.
